This technique is one of the fabled jutsu of the legendary Sacred Elder Group. Otoshi Nagare, one of the members of this group, is able to use this useful technique with extreme proficiency.
After weaving the required hand signals, the user concentrates their chakra into the ground around them. The chakra reaches for the nearest shadow and melts the user into that shadow. The user is then able to travel at high speeds as that shadow, using the energy around them to propel themselves. One reaching their destination, the user can reform their body by just mentally concentrating. It is also a use technique when hiding from pursuing trackers or attackers. This form is immune to taijutsu blows. The user can fuse into a shadow of another object to hide from their pursuers.
However, this technique has its risks. For one, once the user becomes a shadow, they are unable to attack or defend in any way and must become a human again to fight or defend. Also, even as a shadow, the user can still be affected by bladed weapons and jutsu, injuring them in a random spot when they reform. Lastly, this technique requires a good amount of chakra and chakra control.
