Dance of the Tranquil River (涼川の舞, Ryōkawa no Mai) is the rudimentary chakra flow technique taught within the Leaf-Style school of swordsmanship. Unlike similar techniques, which rely on preselected practices of nature and shape transformation, this technique's use comes from its basic nature. As such, users of the skill are free to adapt and expand upon the core practices of chakra flow to fit their natural affinities and preferred fighting styles. The most basic variant simple generates a potent aura of visible chakra around the user's blade that increases the aforementioned weapon's cutting potential.

Advanced users can apply shape transformation to extend and alter the shape of the chakra aura, similar to the practices of the Land of Iron's samurai. This technique can also be utilized in conjunction with various nature transformations, each offering different particular effects.

Some of the most novel variations are demonstrated by Tōko Kannagi, who combines this technique with yin and yang natures independently. With the former she is able to establish a persistent illusory link with anyone who makes even indirect contact with her blade, allowing her to ensnare targets that either cross blades with her or otherwise make contact with her sword. While not a genjutsu in its own right, the link in question can be used as a means to target an opponent with a separate illusion at will. Unlike most other chakra flow variants, this technique doesn't demonstrate a flashy aura, though a perceptive individual may notice the dark gleam from the blade under the effect. Conversely, the latter nature transformation allows her to enhance her blade's durability to incredible levels, warding off punishing barrages of strikes, and weapons also enhanced with chakra flow, without sustaining any noticeable damage. Like the aforementioned variant, a bright aura isn't visible when Tōko uses her yang version of this technique. Instead, only an almost unnatural luster can be imbued item. Notably, Tōko can employ both of these versions of chakra flow with armaments other than a sword. In addition to projectile armaments, like kunai and shuriken, she has also used this technique in conjuncture with her sword's sheath for various strategies.
