This genjutsu is one of the most powerful genjutsu that was developed by the Yūmei Clan head, Akira Yūmei. After the user forms the needed hand seals, the target is entrapped in a horrifying illusion. The illusion consists of two parts: the primary phase and the secondary phase. The primary phase entails the target hallucinating that they have died, and are being tortured by all of the demons of the underworld. The secondary phase is the more powerful of the two. It entails the user manipulating the pain receptors in the brain, which causes the target to feel as if they are experiencing pain from every cell in their body.

Miyuki Murakami, due to her Ketsugan, had taken the technique to a whole new level. Unlike most genjutsu, the mental trauma the Wailings of a Restless Ghost Technique caused was not amplified by her dojutsu. The Ketsugan only made the genjutsu much more difficult to break, such that the infamous Itachi Uchiha was unable to escape it, even with his Sharingan, requiring him to use shadow clones to distract Miyuki.
