Phoenix Release is the unique Kekkei Genkai used by the phoenixes that reside in the Aokigahara Forest. It is also a Kekkei Genkai of the Abura and Uchiha Clans.

Usage

At its simplest, Phoenix Release allows the user to create and manipulate silver flames. These flames can either be used to harm or heal and thanks to the healing properties of the silver flames, the user can convert their chakra into a source of life, much akin to Hashirama Senju's Wood Release. Originally, only the Phoenixex of Aokigahara Rainforest have access to Phoenix Release, however, upon Abura Uchiha's discovery of them not long after her founding of Takigakure, she reached an agreement with the Great Phoenix Sage and forged a pact with them; in exchange for her and her clan protecting them, they will teach their techniques to her clan, namely, the Abura Clan named after her and the Uchiha Clan members who followed her after her exile.

As an extension of Fire Release, Phoenix Release can essentially do everything Fire Release can. Phoenix Release, by default, has far stronger flames than normal Fire Release and as such, Phoenix Release burns through Fire Release with the only exception being the black flames of Itachi Uchiha's (and later on, Sasuke Uchiha's and Emiri Uchiha's) Amaterasu. Despite being fire, Phoenix Release cannot be extinguished by even the strongest of Water Release techniques as the silver flames would vaporize them on contact. As previously stated, these flames do not only cause harm as they can functionally make the user immortal as well as carry enough healing strength to outpace even the pinnacle of Medical Ninjutsu.

Users

As previously stated, the Phoenixes naturally possess the ability to use Phoenix Release and have used them both offensively, defensively, and supportively. After training under the tutelage of the Great Phoenix Sage, Abura Uchiha manifested the ability to use the nature transformation herself which she then eventually passed down to her descendants. The nature transformation can appear naturally in both Abura and Uchiha members albeit this isn't always the case.

Trivia

• While classified as a ninjutsu, Phoenix Release is a nature transformation only possible for those who learn Phoenix Sage Mode and as such, would be better classified as senjutsu.
  • Despite this, there is actually a difference between normal Phoenix Release and senjutsu-influenced Phoenix Release; those of the Abura and Uchiha who have inherited the genetics to manifest Phoenix Release but have not yet trained in Phoenix Sage Mode use it as a ninjutsu while those who have trained in Phoenix Sage Mode as well as the phoenixes themselves can freely use the Phoenix Release as a normal ninjutsu or as a senjutsu.
• Phoenix Release's ability to heal is similar to Kintsugi Senju's unique Kekkei Genkai, Spring Release, in the fact that both nature transformations can essentially make its user functionally immortal.
