Sabui (さぶい, Sabui) is a former jōnin and current missing-nin from Kumogakure. Disillusioned with his village, he left and became a wanderer. He eventually would become a minor criminal who encountered Fūjin Uchiha. The two men fought, resulting in Sabui's defeat, subsequently becoming rivals. Sabui joined Fūjin in his wanderings, following this event, going back on his criminal ways while expressing that he still held no desire to return to his home village.

Personality

Sabui is a highly unenthusiastic individual, hailing from the shinobi village of Kumogakure. He is soft-spoken and dislikes people who get "fired up" easily, especially when these people are his opponents in combat. Despite his clear tactical strength, he hates fighting and prefers to end fights in as few attacks as possible in order to avoid dragged out conflict. Sabui has even been known to run away from fights that have dragged on for too long. He refers to such fights, or particularly flamboyant people, as "lame" (さぶい, sabui); in fact, it is his most common word to use.

Still, when it comes to his teammates — Fūjin and Yūgao — he will break his own rules and enter combat willingly, regardless of the duration. He was initially hostile towards Fūjin, claiming that the glint in his eyes were "lame", referring to the intensity of Fūjin's glare. After being defeated by the man, Sabui refers to the Uchiha as a rival and joins him in his quest, where they become best friends over time. His loyalty for Fūjin is best demonstrated by the fact that he refers to the Uchiha as "boss" (ボス, bosu). He is willing to sacrifice himself for his teammates and has shown incredible bravery for their sake. Conversely, Sabui holds strong disdain for his home village of Kumogakure, which eventually led to his defection.

Appearance

Sabui is a fairly tall, muscular, dark-skinned man, with short, white hair, and a black mark shaped like crosshairs over his missing his left eye. He wears a variation of the standard Kumogakure flack jacket: a white vest adorned with a furred pauldron on only his right shoulder. Additionally, he wears a white, furred, bicorne on his head in place of his former Kumogakure shinobi headband. He carries a massive rifle-like weapon on his back when traveling the shinobi world.

Trivia

• "Sabui" (寒い) means "lame", referring to Sabui's catchphrase. When written in katakana (さぶい), it can also mean "dull", which is a possible translation of Darui, another shinobi from Kumogakure.
• Sabui shares his trait of calling those he respects "boss" with Darui, the Fifth Raikage.
