Soen Kuzuryūshin (九頭龍神疎遠, Kuzuryūshin Soen), better known as simply Soen (疎遠, Soen), is a man with origins in the Land of Wind. Born with a strange appearance and paired with a mysterious air about him, the people of the Land of Wind grew to fear him, imprisoning him after spotting him lurking close to the entrance of Sunagakure. The residents accused him of being the one responsible for the disappearances of those venturing in and out of the village though this could not be proven at the time. His potential was observed by the Seventh Kazekage within prison, and he would be assigned to guard him, something he would do successfully for a few years.
However, the allegations would prove to be true after a thorough investigation. The Kazekage was faced with the hard decision of exposing his trusted friend to the public or turning a blind eye to his horrible acts. Instead, he would choose to dismiss Soen silently, covering up his exile with a false death. Despite growing close to Zenjou, Soen did not fight against the exile. He would travel to the Land of Water instead, craving the waters and mist where he could hide away his habits. He would experience many things on his journey to the island country, establishing a reputation as well. Upon arriving to Kirigakure, Soen would prove himself as an exceptional shinobi, applying his sharpened prowess as the bodyguard of the Kazekage to his current position. His use of the rare Swift Release and his violent beast-like style of fighting would earn him the nickname of Crocodile of Kirigakure (霧隠れの鰐, Kirigakure no Wani). His skill would be acknowledged by the captain of the Kirigakure ANBU, Gatsui Zō, and he would select him as a member of his squadron alongside the feared Aisaka Momochi, niece of legendary Hidden Mist Demon Zabuza Momochi. The trio would become known as the Three Fog Demons (三霧鬼, Sankirima).
He would later become acquainted with his captain's sister, Mi'i, a terrorist known for a massacre in the Land of Water. He would become bewitched by her fearlessness and beauty and thus he proposed, both literally and figuratively, a plan to dominate the Land of Water through their offspring which he would call the Kuzuryūshin clan (九頭龍神一族, Kuzuryūshin Ichizoku). She would reluctantly oblige, seeing something within him that she admired as well. His plan would lead to his resign from the ANBU squadron, much to his captain's confusion.
