The Spiral technique stems from the building block of all living things; DNA, and more specifically their double helix shape. The spiral is able to be manipulated in order to release a large amount of energy and using the Tenakigan, the originator is able to manipulate and harness this power to preform supernatural feats such as reviving the dead. This jutsu however, they cannot revive souls and as such the revive and reanimated bodies have no will of their own and they bend to the user's will as it is pressed upon them in order to grant movement and "life".
