Summit (山巓, Santen, Literally meaning, "Mountaintop, Summit") is a mysterious branch of Yamagakure's ANBU, founded and lead by D.
Overview[]
Summit carries out the more underhanded, less politically friendly, missions for Yamagakure. As such, its actions are, at times, less than reputable and are almost never moral or ethical. While, like the rest of the ANBU, they answer directly to the Yamakage, most of the direction and supervision of the organization is left to D, who administers their missions and decides who joins the organization. Summit is directly responsible for dealing with traitorous shinobi from Yamagakure, retrieving important documents or items, and assassinating high-level political targets.

Similarly to Konohagakure's Root, D places a cursed seal of his own invention upon every member which joins Summit. The mark prevents them from divulging details about the organization, the village, or any of the members of the village. It also allows D to control the members of the organization if they attempt to rebel or disobey his direct orders.
Any sense of individuality is eliminated, and every member is given a codename; with not even other members of Summit knowing their comrade's true name. Members are trained in brainwashing techniques, assassination techniques, and camouflage techniques and are indefinitely more talented than the average ANBU member. Like the rest of the ANBU forces, they wear cloaks, animal-like masks, and are usual equip with a katana.

- The group's name is reflective of the summit of a mountain, named in kind with the village, which is "hidden in the mountains".
